What makes it difficult is what I call the "perceived fairness" issue. Comparing (1000 req/sec, 25%) with (500 req/sec, 50%) will always be hard and controversial. Many vendors want to have a single-point characteristic like SPEC or TPC and restricting hit ratios and other performance measurements (except throughput) helps them to approach that model. We were always saying that customers should make the final choice, ideally based on _all_ reported figures. What I envision happening is addition of more metrics and workload features that emphasize the importance (or, more precisely, influence) of hit ratio with no significant changes to the minimum HR requirement. A better classification (e.g., products that offer >= 50% HR versus others) may also become available through some interactive "filtering" pages. The latter would be similar to what people use when searching for a home to buy or apartment to rent: "show me all offerings that fit my cost/space/pets/etc. requirements". Alex.
